The Defiant Ones is a four part biographical docu-series that follows the unexpected and incredibly successful partnership between Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre.
Jimmy Iovine is the infamous record producer who started his career in the 1970’s as a recording engineer for John Lennon and Bruce Springstein. From there he grew to become one of the top record producers. With his drive for success and eye for talent he created stars and helped build up the one’s who were already made. From Tom Petty to Stevie Nicks to Gwenstafani, Iovine had no prejudice to talent, he only saw who was the best and nurtured them to their fullest potential. In his own words, “great can come from anywhere” and that is so true. Put him along side of Dr. Dre, the man who single handedly brought together West Coast finest rappers such as Snoop Dog and Tu Pac and who is credited for creating West Coast G-Funk style rap, you will get something amazing. That is what this documentary is all about.

From their dark side to their genius, from mistakes to miracles, the two have made millions of dollars together and many, many stars.

The show takes us past the business side of music and into the artists life, the beginning point of when they started and how they were discovered. You see that music is more than genres or a persona of the performer, but about the artist and their need to create and express themselves.

The two are a power house. In 2008, Iovine teamed up with Dr. Dre to co-found Beats By Dr. Dre, a headphones brand. With all their success and money they have given back in a huge way. In May 2013, Iovine and Dr. Dre donated a $70 million endowment to the University of Southern California to create the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.
